Access to Higher Education at PACA Adult Learning, Brighton
An Access course is a qualification that enables a person to become eligible to study at degree level. The course prepares those who would now like to go to University but for whatever reason, left school without the qualifications needed. The Access Diploma is recognised by the majority of UK universities and has no upper-age limitation. Access courses are typically one year long.
We are proud to be able to support adults on their journey towards a career. Students are also given support to apply for a University place through the UCAS applications process. The Access pathway is suitable for those seeking Social Science related Higher Education, including degrees in Social Work, Teaching, Psychology, Sociology and Criminology, Law, Adult Nursing, Child Nursing, Paramedic Science, Midwifery, Operating Department Practice, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy. Support for our learners
Previous student feedback about how passionate the Access team tutors are. The tutors are also very experienced and able to provide a high level of support for students with Dyslexia and assist with the quality of writing, numeracy and IT to help everyone increase their confidence and ability.
If you are not quite ready to start an Access course and need a little support beforehand, we offer the opportunity of enrolling on a Pre-Access course which will ensure you develop the skills and confidence you need. If you successfully complete the Pre-Access course you can seamlessly join our next full Access course.
In order to achieve the award of a QAA approved Access Diploma, students must reach a standardised number of 60 credits. 54 credits will be at Level 3, with 45 graded as pass, merit or distinction and 9 ungraded. The remaining 6 credits will be available at level 2.
I am very pleased to have achieved great results, I am now studying at University. I have a lot to thank both the College and my teacher for helping me. I am looking forward to do many different modules in my Degree especially those focusing on mental health. Thank you so much, you have been really supportive, accessible and you offer a wealth of knowledge and experience.
I cannot emphasize enough the similarities between what we learnt at PACA and what I’m currently doing at University. As a mature student, it has been a great help knowing that I learnt skills and developed learning techniques at PACA that have equipped me to tackle my undergraduate course successfully.
The support and help provided by PACA was absolutely brilliant and I can’t speak highly enough of them. In comparison to some students starting at Chichester, I was taught things which some other students hadn’t even heard of.
If you’re looking for a superb learning environment, with incredible support and help at every step of the way, then PACA is the perfect adult learning environment for you.
The courses I completed at PACA were absolutely instrumental in not only getting myself into Chichester University, but actually equipped me with the skills and knowledge that has allowed me to cope with the transition successfully.

The access to social science course is great because you receive so much help, support with everything and learn so much but not just about the world around us but things hidden deep within yourself I could not recommend this course highly enough.
