Enjoy a visit to Foredown Tower. We are now fully refurbished and open as a visitor and Adult Learning Centre with a small café and peaceful garden a great place to study with daily classes.
The first floor of the building has a classroom, perfect for business ‘away days’. There is also a gallery space with regular photography & art exhibitions. Both are available for hire.
Perched on the edge of the South Downs, within easy reach of the no 6 bus, this converted Edwardian water tower was built in 1909 to serve the nearby isolation hospital.
The Tower is famous for housing the largest Camera Obscura in the South East. Visit the top floor viewing gallery, (up a 47 step spiral staircase) with stunning 360 degree views of the coast, South Downs and across the city.
A Camera Obscura (Latin: darkened chamber) is an optical device, based on the pinhole camera, but using a lens and a mirror instead of a pinhole to project a moving, coloured image onto a screen in a the darkened room.
The Tower is a great stop off point for walkers and cyclists. We are happy to take bookings for groups.
