Learn Spanish in 10 weeks at Portslade Adult Learning

During this term you will learn about: talking about the past: what you did yesterday, last week etc., biographies: talking about your life and describing other people’s lives; the preterite (simple past) tense: regular and irregular verbs;  parts of the body and saying what hurts, describing symptoms, and making suggestions and giving advice; the verb DOLER: me duele/me duelen; talkikng about what you have done this week, month, year, etc and talking about life experiences; the present perfect tense: regular and irregular verbs; ya adn todavia; describing items and reporting lost property: saying where and when you lost something, describing personal property: material, size, colour, etc and possessive adjectives: mi, tu, su, etc; describing people and places in the past: saying what someone or something was like: the imperfect tense (regular and irregular verbs).

Due to the current situation, this course will be delivered as a distant learning course, and I will put handouts etc on Moodle. However, I also aim to give as much individual support as possible, via email, texts and phone calls, where possible, and also maybe via Zoom.

    – The Present perfect tense – regular and irregular verbs.
    – Asking and saying what someone has done this week, this month, this year.
    – Reporting lost property and describing personal items.
    – The Imperfect tense – regular and irregular verbs.
    – Describing what things and people were like.
    – Possessive adjectives.


    TEACHING AND LEARNING METHODS

    Due to the current unusual circumstances, this course will be delivered by distance learning. I will be sending out handouts and quizzes, links to video clips and online activities via Moodle and email.

    I also aim to give as much personalised and individual help and support as possible, via phone calls and emails or texts.

    There is also the possibility of interactive communication via Zoom or Skype.

    The emphasis will still be on learning through communicative activities, though grammar tasks will also be set.

    The aim is to keep learning, as a class and individually, and to keep having fun!


    COURSE LEVEL/ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

    You will need to have taken at least one year of study prior to the course and be familiar with the present tense.


    HOW PROGRESS IS CHECKED DURING COURSE

    The aim is to provide assessment of progress via the completion of set work (which can be emailed or sent via Moodle); via individual phone calls, emails or texts; via the completion of online quizzes; and via peer support activities. Other methods of assessment may also be included, and I am open to good ideas and suggestions from my students!!


    EXTRA STUDY OR PRACTICE REQUIRED AT HOME

    You will make greater progress if you do at least one hour of study at home in between the classes. There is no formal accreditation of this course.


    MATERIALS YOU WILL NEED TO BRING TO THE COURSE

    We will be using PASOS book 1 (Student book, 3rd edition), which comes with a CD. These items can sometimes be found in secondhand bookshops.

    Access to thw internet is also advisable.


    WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

    Spanish Intermediates will follow on at PACA in September. Your tutor will advise and give more detailed information at a later stage.
