COURSE CONTENT

– The Preterite tense – regular and irregular verbs.
– Talking about important events in a person's life.
– Describing physical ailments and illnesses.
– The verb DOLER.
– The Present perfect tense – regular and irregular verbs.
– Asking and saying what someone has done this week, this month, this year.
– Reporting lost property.
– Describing lost items.
– The Imperfect tense – regular and irregular verbs.
– Saying what you used to do.
– Possessive adjectives.

COURSE AIMS/OBJECTIVES

  • Talk about the past – what you did last week, last month, last year.
  • Talk about important events in your life.
  • Name parts of the body and talk about ailments and illnesses.
  • Give advice and make suggestions.
  • Report and describe lost property.

TEACHING AND LEARNING METHODS

The emphasis is on learning through communication, though grammar points will also be taught as appropriate. Teaching will be done through whole class work, individual work and small group and pair work. Methods of learning include role play, listening activities, games, music and interactive activities.


COURSE LEVEL/ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

You will need to have taken at least one year of study prior to the course and be familiar with the present tense.


HOW PROGRESS IS CHECKED DURING COURSE

Progress is checked informally through question and answer sessions in class, monitoring of group and pair work activities, feedback and homework.


EXTRA STUDY OR PRACTICE REQUIRED AT HOME

You will make greater progress if you do at least one hour of study at home in between the classes. There is no formal accreditation of this course.


MATERIALS YOU WILL NEED TO BRING TO THE COURSE

We will be using PASOS book 1 (Student book, 3rd edition), which comes with a CD. These items can sometimes be found in secondhand bookshops.


WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

Spanish Intermediates will follow on at PACA in September. Your tutor will advise.
