  • COURSE CONTENT

    – Regular and irregular verbs in the present tense.
    – Asking and saying the time.
    – Talking about your daily routine.
    -Talking about your free time activities.
    – Buying items at the market or supermarket.
    – Weights and measures.
    – Shopping for everyday items.
    – Shopping for clothes and talking about size, colour and material.
    – Describe someone's appearance.
    – Describe someone's character.


    TEACHING AND LEARNING METHODS

    The emphasis will be on learning through communication, though grammar points will also be taught as appropriate. Teaching will be done through whole class work, individual work and small group and pair work. Methods of learning include role play, listening activities, games, music and interactive activities.


    COURSE LEVEL/ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

    This course is suitable for students who have some prior knowledge of Spanish and is not suitable for complete beginners.


    HOW PROGRESS IS CHECKED DURING COURSE

    Progress is checked informally through question and answer sessions in class, monitoring of group and pair work activities, feedback and homework.


    EXTRA STUDY OR PRACTICE REQUIRED AT HOME

    You will make greater progress if you are able to do at least one hour of study at home in between the classes! There is no formal accreditation of this course.


    MATERIALS YOU WILL NEED TO BRING TO THE COURSE

    We will be using PASOS Book 1 (Student book, 3rd edition), which also comes with a CD. These are sometimes available in secondhand bookshops. The tutor will be able to advise further during the first lesson.

    Spanish Improvers Term 1 will follow-on at PACA in September. Your tutor will be able to advise you further.

The class will emphasise the basic conversation required for holidays or social occasions. For absolute beginners with no previous knowledge of the language.

    SEPTEMBER - DECEMBER

    You will learn about: Meeting and greeting people, saying where you are from - countries and nationalities, saying what you do - jobs and professions, talking about your family, ordering food and drink in a bar or restaurant, the Spanish alphabet, numbers, masculine/ feminine and plural forms, the verb SER, HAY - there is /there are and some common irregular verbs: QUERER, TENER

    During Term 2 you will learn how to describe places; ask for and give directions; ask about places in town; booking a hotel room; ask about hotel facilities; learn days, dates and months; describe your home, including its rooms and furniture; differences between SER and ESTAR, adjectives, prepositions and expressions of place.

  • Describing your home: rooms in your home, uses of ser and estar
  • Describe a place using adjectives.
  • Ask for and give directions using prepositions.
  • Ask about places in town.
  • Learn days, months and dates.
  • Differentiate between SER and ESTAR.
  • COURSE CONTENT

    You will learn how to communicate on a basic level, using simple phases, in order to build up confidence and get the most out of your stay in Spain. This course will give you an introduction to this beautiful language.


    TEACHING AND LEARNING METHODS

    The emphasis will be on learning through communication, though grammar points will also be taught as appropriate.Teaching will be done through whole class work, individual work and small group and pair work.Methods of learning include role play, listening activities, games, music and interactive activities. Homework and additional resources to stretch and challenge you will be put on Moodle. Please ensure you can access Moodle at home. You are encouraged to download the Moodle app and the Duolingo app.


    COURSE LEVEL/ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

    The second part of this course (from January 2020) is for people who have already completed at least 20 hours of Spanish lessons.

    Progress will be checked informally throughout the course, by question and answer sessions during the class, observation by the tutor, and by games and quizzes. Homework will also be given as a means of assessing progress.
