An introduction to Photoshop and the different tools and settings that can be used to edit photographs and create graphic images in a variety of ways. This course is ideal for getting to next stage of digital photography or using Photoshop for graphic design, illustration, general artwork and printmaking.

COURSE AIMS/OBJECTIVES

  • Use the basic tools to edit photograph,s such as adjustments to exposure, contrast, colour, saturation and converting images to black & white.
  • Digitally cut images out from a background and place into a new image, such as a white background or a photo montage.
  • Use the different selection tools & methods to apply adjustments or effects to specific areas of a picture.
  • Crop and resize photos for printing and for using online.
  • Use the tools pallet to retouch, dodge and burn your photographs to enhance images for a more professional finish.
  • Add text, images and shapes to create designs for a poster or leaflet. Move different layers around and adjust the transparency to create photo montages and graphic designs.

    This course is for anyone who needs an introduction to Photoshop and the different tools and settings that can be used to edit photographs and create graphic images in a variety of ways. This course is ideal for those who have some experience taking photos but want to move to the next stage of digital photography and process your photographs like a professional. We will also look at lots of tools that can be used for graphic design, illustration, general artwork and printmaking. This course is useful for anyone who works in a creative industry and wants to move more into digital production. It is a beginners course, but people who are familiar with Photoshop will still benefit from many of the tips and tricks that will be taught within this course. Basic IT skills are essential for doing this course, you will need to be confident a PC or Mac computer and be able to save and open files and be familiar with copy and paste functions and Internet Explorer.

    Tutorials and demonstrations of techniques; individual practical work; project work; group discussions; individual feedback.


    COURSE LEVEL/ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

    Basic IT skills are essential for doing this course, thus you will need to be confident using a PC or Mac computer and be able to save and open files and be familiar with copy and paste functions and Internet Explorer.

    You should have an interest in learning about Photoshop, digital photography and graphic design or digital art.

    No specific prior qualifications required.


    HOW PROGRESS IS CHECKED DURING COURSE

    Classroom tasks will be set to monitor individual learners on their performance and feedback will be given to help individuals improve their skills.

    Classroom performance will be monitored and extra support can be made available where necessary.


    EXTRA STUDY OR PRACTICE REQUIRED AT HOME

    Practicing at home is advantageous to learners in order to benefit from lesson material and to develop their skills further.


    MATERIALS YOU WILL NEED TO BRING TO THE COURSE

    Pen, paper, a folder and a USB pen drive, which is useful for saving your work onto so that you may take it home and work further on the classroom tasks.
