COURSE AIMS/OBJECTIVES

  • How to operate instruments used for portable appliance testing.
  • Types of appliances, and how testing of them differs.
  • Manage paperwork related to portable appliance testing (2377-32 course only)
  • Carry out visual inspections, and testing of appliances
  • Understand the law and scope of relevant legislation and guidance
  • Understand the types of tests, and why we do them.
  • COURSE CONTENT

PAT Specific: Legislation, responsibilities, recording data, using a tester, understanding test results, testing frequencies, documentation, visual inspections


    TEACHING AND LEARNING METHODS

    75% theory and 25% practical


    COURSE LEVEL/ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

    A basic understanding of electricity would be useful but not crucial as reading can be carried out before commencing the course.


    HOW PROGRESS IS CHECKED DURING COURSE

    Short practical assessment The 2377-22 consists of a 50 question multiple choice exam, with a time limit of 1 hour and 45 minutes. For those taking the 2377-32 qualification in addition, this consists of a 40 question multiple choice exam, with a time limit of 1 hour and 20 minutes.


    EXTRA STUDY OR PRACTICE REQUIRED AT HOME

    Pre-reading of the basics of electricity may be required if not working in the industry. Reading of the Code of Practice would also be required for all to aid preparation for the theory exam.
