COURSE CONTENT

  • Understanding mental health.
  • Understanding of a wide range of issues related mental health. These include developing an understanding of stress, anxiety and phobias.
  • Understanding post-natal depression and depression.
  • Understanding the following conditions: Bipolar Disorder; Schizophrenia; Dementia.
  • Understanding eating disorders.
  • Developing efficient research skills, by reading and responding to written materials.
  • Produce written materials for specific purposes.

COURSE AIMS/OBJECTIVES

  • Understanding of a wide range of issues relating to mental health. These include developing an understanding of stress, anxiety and phobias.
  • Produce written materials for specific purposes.
  • Understanding post-natal depression and depression.
  • Understanding the following conditions: Bipolar Disorder; Schizophrenia; Dementia.
  • Understanding eating disorders.
  • Developing efficient research skills, by reading and responding to written materials.

TEACHING AND LEARNING METHODS

A variety of teaching and learning methods will be used on the course, including short lectures, group discussions, group exercises, individual work and the use of audio visual material.


COURSE LEVEL/ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Students should feel reasonably confident at expressing their ideas in written form.


HOW PROGRESS IS CHECKED DURING COURSE

A Workbook is to be completed throughout the course, with evidence gathered together in a folder. This becomes your portfolio. 10 minute tutorials – 3 times during the course.


EXTRA STUDY OR PRACTICE REQUIRED AT HOME

Students will need to allow about one hour a week for further set activities, reading and revision.


MATERIALS YOU WILL NEED TO BRING TO THE COURSE

Please bring a pen, an A4 folder and A4 notepaper to the first lesson if possible.
