In the last term of the improvers course, we will study how to: talk about the future; express desires, intentions, suppositions and conditions; write a job application letter; talk about the new job; write and talk about a story; talk about what happened in a specific moment; express curiosity and necessity, and compare situations.

COURSE CONTENT

In this last term of the Italian for Improvers course, students will achieve a complete understanding about grammar rules and they will be able to easily interact with native speakers at all levels. The course will focus on the use of future and hypothetical forms (start per + infinito). Students will also learn how to use the present conjunctive tense to express hopes and needs.

COURSE AIMS/OBJECTIVES

  • Talk about the future.
  • Express desires, intentions and suppositions.
  • write a job application letter and talk about work prospective.
  • Express necessity and curiosity.
  • Compare situations.
  • Talk about events that occurred in a specific moment in the past and their consequences in the future.

TEACHING AND LEARNING METHODS

During the course, students will work individually, in pairs and in groups. Each lesson will focus on a specific linguistic area using different learning methods, e.g. gist and detailed reading, listening, writing and speaking activities.

At the beginning of each lesson, there will be a group discussion for students to express their opinion about what has been learnt so far. In order to improve their skills, students will practice the language with the Videocorso.


COURSE LEVEL/ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Students need to know the present and past tenses (both regular and irregular forms). They also need a fluency and understanding of Italian grammar rules and be able to express their opinion.


HOW PROGRESS IS CHECKED DURING COURSE

Exercises will be set in each lesson to test the learning process. At the end of each unit, students will complete a test and then discuss the results with the tutor. There is no final exam for this course.


EXTRA STUDY OR PRACTICE REQUIRED AT HOME

Homework will be set at the end of each lesson. All students are encouraged to create a personal book with all vocabulary, verbs and expressions studied during the course. In additiion to this, students can also practise the language by using the ALMATV website, which contains extra exercises and videos.


MATERIALS YOU WILL NEED TO BRING TO THE COURSE

The book that will be used in this course is called 'Nuovo Espresso, A2' Alma Edizioni, 2014 (student book). It is important to buy the book with the CD included. Students also need to bring their own notebook.


WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

After successful completion of this course, students can attend the CILS exam and get a qualification for Italian language speakers.
