During the spring term we will study: make an offer, accept or decline it giving reasons; make an appointment (time and location); express surprise and regret; give suggestions and opinions and express needs; interact on the social networks; talk about food habits; talk about health and describe health problems; give and ask for health information and suggestions, and convince someone to do something.

COURSE CONTENT

The grammar in this course will analyse the concordance between past participle tenses and direct pronouns. Students will be introduced to imperfective, imperative and negative forms. Moreover, the course will teach students how to build comparative sentences and use of different comparative adjectives.

COURSE AIMS/OBJECTIVES

  • Accept or decline an offer, giving reasons for your choice.
  • Book an appointment (time and location).
  • Express surprise and regret.
  • Give suggestions and opinions.
  • Give and ask for health information and medicaments.
  • Convince someone to do something.

TEACHING AND LEARNING METHODS

During the course, students will work individually, in pairs and in groups. Each lesson will focus on a specific linguistic area using different learning methods, e.g. gist and detailed reading, listening, writing and speaking activities.

At the beginning of each lesson, there will be a group discussion for students to express their opinion about what has been learnt so far. In order to improve their skills, students will practice the language with the Videocorso.


COURSE LEVEL/ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Students need a good understanding of Italian grammar, as well as knowledge of the different ways to express actions using the present and past tenses. A good fluency when speaking Italian is required, along with the motivation to learn more.


HOW PROGRESS IS CHECKED DURING COURSE

Exercises will be set in each lesson to test the learning process. At the end of each unit, students will complete a test and then discuss the results with the tutor. There is no final exam for this course.


EXTRA STUDY OR PRACTICE REQUIRED AT HOME

Homework will be set at the end of each lesson. All students are encouraged to create a personal book with all vocabulary, verbs and expressions studied during the course. In additiion to this, students can also practise the language by using the ALMATV website, which contains extra exercises and videos.


MATERIALS YOU WILL NEED TO BRING TO THE COURSE

The book that will be used in this course is called 'Nuovo Espresso, A2' Alma Edizioni, 2014 (student book). It is important to buy the book with the CD included. Students also need to bring their own notebook.

Italian Improvers – Term 3 (Summer Term). This last term offers students the chance to gain a complete understanding of Italian language and culture.
