In the Summer Term, students will learn how to go shopping in a grocery shop and express individual taste, describe a shop and compare different kind of shops, talk about traditional food and ask for recipes, talk about working hours and habits, describe the family and pictures.

COURSE CONTENT

Students will learn how to talk about quantities and time expression. They will also be introduced to the use of possessive and superlative adjectives, as well as past tenses (regular and irregular forms) and reflexive verbs. Indirect pronouns and impersonal forms will also be taught in this course.

COURSE AIMS/OBJECTIVES

  • Go shopping and express taste.
  • Compare different kinds of places (shops, bars, hotels and apartments).
  • Discuss traditional food and ask for recipes.
  • Talk about working hours and habits.
  • Express events in the past.
  • Describe people and pictures.

TEACHING AND LEARNING METHODS

During the course, students will work individually, in pairs and in groups. Each lesson will focus on a specific linguistic area using different learning methods such as: gist/ detailed reading, listening, writing and speaking activities.

At the beginning of each lesson there will be a little group discussion where students can express their doubts or opinion about what they have learnt. In order to improve their skills, students will also practise the language with the Videocorso.


COURSE LEVEL/ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Students need to know how to introduce themselves and other people, how to conjugate verbs (ending in -are, -ere and -ire) at the present tense, and also know the basic rules of Italian grammar.


HOW PROGRESS IS CHECKED DURING COURSE

Progress will be tested in each lesson with little exercises. At the end of each unit, students will have to complete a test and then discuss the results with the teacher. There is no final exam for this course.


EXTRA STUDY OR PRACTICE REQUIRED AT HOME

At the end of each lesson, students will have homework to complete. All students are highly encouraged to create a personal book with all the vocabulary, verbs and expressions studied during the course. In addition to this students can also practise the language by using the ALMATV website where they can find extra exercises and videos.


MATERIALS YOU WILL NEED TO BRING TO THE COURSE

The book that will be used in this course is called 'Nuovo Espresso, A 1' Alma Edizioni, 2014 (student book). It is important to buy the book with the CD included. Moreover students will need to bring their own notebook.
