COURSE AIMS/OBJECTIVES

  • Learn how to handle flowers
  • Learn colour and texture
  • Learn floristry techniques
  • Learn to wire and tape
  • Learn to spiral stems in a hand tie
  • Learn flower names Latin and common
  • COURSE CONTENT

    You will also learn about different types of flowers and foliage, colour schemes and design. You will also learn how to wire flowers in preparation for more advance wedding work. You will learn how to care for your flowers to prolong their life.


    TEACHING AND LEARNING METHODS

    Watching and listening to demonstrations each week and creating your own interpretation of the design. One to one help and advice, discussions, handouts and observations.


    COURSE LEVEL/ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

    Enjoy being creative with flowers and have a desire to learn new floristry skills in a fun evening class, creating your own arrangements.


    HOW PROGRESS IS CHECKED DURING COURSE

    Every week you will make a design and together we will discuss it. Also photographing your work is encouraged this is a visual guide to your improvement.


    EXTRA STUDY OR PRACTICE REQUIRED AT HOME

    Read and enjoy flower books. Look in florist shops to acquaint yourself with the different flowers available. Visit any local or national events or competitions, like The South of England Show, The Chelsea Flower Show, Hampton Court Palace Flower Show.

    MATERIALS YOU WILL NEED TO BRING TO THE COURSE

    • A bucket to place your flowers in
    • Sturdy scissors or secateurs and a sharp knife
    • Old newspaper to work on to clear away flower waste

    Oasis, containers, cellophane, wires and other equipment can be purchased from the tutor, or you can bring your own.

    Please bring with you the flowers and foliage on the attached list for each session:

    The tutor will give you a handout for the materials for the next week at the end of each session.
