Flamenco is a highly expressive Spanish dance form. It’s come from Andalucía (southern Spain). The song, dance, guitar and palmas (clapping) are blended together by the passionate rhythms of this breathtaking dance. Flamenco classes are fun, relaxed and informal, also a great way to get in shape and have fun and make new friends. You do not need to be a trained dancer, nor do you have to be young and streamlined - no matter your age or shape, our flamenco dance course is a class for complete beginners. You will learn the basic technique of Flamenco and be introduced to some of the rhythms. What do you need to wear? If you don’t have the Flamenco gears, please wear; Female: a long wide dress or skirt and any shoes with a bit of heel not too high. Male: trousers, waistcoat flamenco boots if you do not have the boots any shoes but not trainers.

COURSE CONTENT

The student will learn the full Sevillanas dance and identify the three different parts of each one of the Sevillanas.

COURSE AIMS/OBJECTIVES

  • Body posture and technique
  • Introduction and understanding of Flamenco Sevillana rhythm
  • Coordination of the footwork with arm movements
  • Learn, control and recognise the four main dances of the Sevillanas
  • Become familiarised with the Spanish vocabulary of the dance.
  • For people over 60 years old is expected to be able to do a least two of them with the arm movements and people from 18 up to 60 years old is expected to do the dance in full.

TEACHING AND LEARNING METHODS

The student will learn through:

  • Tutor demonstrations
  • Learn by doing
  • Learn by practicing with other students
  • Listening to the tutor


COURSE LEVEL/ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

All welcome. Please Advise of any current medical conditions prior to the course. Any conditions will be discussed with Flamenco Dance Academy. Partner is not required to enrol.

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

Following the successful completion of the course the student could enrol either in Sevillanas Improvers or Flamenco beginners level.
