This course offers the chance to design and make your own bag. There will be a choice of two bag patterns – both beach bag size. You will then cut out and assemble the bag using your own fabric and a supplied pattern. Finished samples will be available for reference, and there will be step by step guidance.

COURSE AIMS/OBJECTIVES

  • Cut out a bag using a supplied pattern ( choice of two)
  • Make pockets
  • Insert a zip
  • Assemble a bag
  • Become more familiar with a sewing machine
  • Make design decisions


COURSE CONTENT

There will be a choice of two bag patterns – both beach bag size. You will then cut out and assemble the bag using your own fabric and a supplied pattern. Finished samples will be available for reference, and there will be step by step guidance.

COURSE LEVEL/ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Students should have basic knowledge of a domestic sewing machine.

  • Observation of individual students
  • Student feedback
  • Question/answer session to check progress and level of understanding.
  • Encourage students to always ask if they are unsure

MATERIALS YOU WILL NEED TO BRING TO THE COURSE

  • 1.5 metres medium weight fabric e.g upholstery/curtain fabric
  • Matching colour sewing thread
  • Zip (if desired) approx 20 inches long.
  • Unpicker
  • Notepad & pen
  • Ruler
  • Tailoring scissors (if possible)
  • Pins
  • Tape Measure
